Sommelier Privacy Policy
Sommelier is built and operated by Matt Lewis, an independent developer. This policy describes what the app collects and what happens to it. The short version: your data exists so the app can work, it isn't sold or shared for advertising, and you can delete all of it yourself at any time.
What is collected
- Email address and password — used to create and sign in to your account. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes, never in plaintext.
- Your content — recipes, meals, cellar bottles, and pairing feedback you create in the app.
- Recipe text you import — pasted text, shared recipes, or Paprika recipe exports you choose to import.
- Photos you submit for scanning — pictures of wine bottle labels, restaurant menus, or wine lists that you choose to scan. Photos are transmitted to our servers and to Anthropic for reading; they are not permanently stored on our servers. Only the scan results you choose to save (for example, bottle metadata or dish names) are kept.
- Usage counts — per-day tallies of AI-powered features you use (for example, scans and imports) so we can enforce fair daily limits. These counts do not include the content of your recipes or photos.
Sommelier collects nothing else. There are no ads, no analytics SDKs, no location tracking, and no data brokers. We do not sell your data.
Third-party processors
Your data is handled by:
- Anthropic (Claude API) — processes recipe text and scan photos to parse imports, suggest ingredients, optionally review drafts, and read bottle labels, menus, and wine lists. Content is sent only to return a result to you and is not used by Anthropic to train models under the API terms we operate under.
- Cloudflare (Workers and D1 database) — hosts the API and stores your account data. All traffic is transmitted over HTTPS.
No advertising networks or data brokers receive your data.
Retention and deletion
Your data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app (Recipes tab → Account → Delete Account); this immediately and permanently removes your account and all associated data — recipes, meals, bottles, pairings, feedback, and usage records — from our servers. Scan photos are not retained after processing. You can also email us to request deletion.
Children
Sommelier is about wine and is not directed at children.
