Sommelier Privacy Policy
Sommelier is built and operated by Matt Lewis, an independent developer. This policy describes what the app collects and what happens to it. The short version: your data exists so the app can work, it isn't sold or shared for advertising, and you can delete all of it yourself at any time.
What is collected
- Email address and password — used to create and sign in to your account. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes, never in plaintext.
- Your content — recipes, meals, cellar bottles, and pairing feedback you create in the app.
- Photos you submit for scanning — pictures of wine bottles, menus, or wine lists that you choose to scan. Photos are used only to produce the scan result and are not used for any other purpose.
Sommelier collects nothing else. There are no ads, no analytics SDKs, no location tracking, and no data brokers.
AI processing
Some features send content to Anthropic's Claude API for processing: recipe text you import is parsed by AI, and photos you scan (wine bottles, menus, wine lists) are read by AI to identify wines and dishes. This content is processed to return a result to you and is not used by Anthropic to train models under the API terms we operate under. No other third party receives your data.
Where your data lives
Data is stored on Cloudflare infrastructure (Workers and the D1 database) and always transmitted over HTTPS.
Retention and deletion
Your data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app (Account → Delete Account); this immediately and permanently removes your account and all associated data — recipes, meals, bottles, pairings, and feedback — from our servers. You can also email us to request deletion.
Children
Sommelier is about wine and is not directed at children.
